Accommodation suppliers urged to halt demanding deposit from NSFAS funded students



The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged landlords never to require a deposit or top-up payment from NSFAS-funded students.

This comes just after NSFAS gained experiences about some accommodation providers who require NSFAS-funded students to pay a deposit or top-up payment so as to get usage of the authorized private accommodation.

"NSFAS reminds accommodation suppliers of your obligatory conditions, as furnished by the Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Settlement involving the personal accommodation suppliers and NSFAS funded students," NSFAS stated in a statement on Thursday.

The Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Agreement states that the lease might be paid regular monthly on the accommodation supplier (lessor) by NSFAS, on behalf in the lessee (NSFAS funded student), in accordance using the NSFAS conditions and terms for private accommodation vendors’ participation on the student accommodation portal.

NSFAS described that where by the NSFAS-funded student chooses to continue nsfas university allowances occupying the leased premises, notwithstanding getting defunded by NSFAS, the scholar are going to be liable for payment of hire for the lessor with the day of being defunded.
